And Here’s My Personal Story...
A Child of a Hardworking Jamaican Mother
My mother was the person who showed me firsthand how to persevere, be resilient, and let determination guide me.
She also managed the care of my high-density, fine, Type 4 coily hair with great dedication until I was old enough to take over the responsibility myself.
Every week, we would sit together for hours, thoroughly going through each phase of textured hair care. This is where I learned the priceless gift of patience.
I Married My Soulmate in 2011
My husband has always stood firmly by my side through the ups and downs of life. He is my greatest supporter and also “The Rock” of our family.
We Welcomed Our First Child in 2015
My son is a math wiz, full of humor, and passionate about sports. His hair is straight at the roots and forms large, loose curls mid-length. With densely packed hair, he typically wears short cut hairstyles.
2017: A Year of Loss and New Beginnings
I am eternally grateful for the 74-years God gave my mother on this earth and for allowing me to experience motherhood for a second time. This period made me deeply aware of the importance of family.
My daughter was born during the same year. She is extremely creative, just like her mom! Her hair is a mix between curls and coils, about the width of a pencil. With high porosity hair, we focus on treating the gaps and holes in her hair cuticle. Her hair strands are fine, and her length reaches mid-back.
Welcoming Our Third Child During the 2020 Pandemic
While it was a challenging year for many, it was a year of newness for us. My youngest daughter has completed our family and brings us so much joy.
Her hair can be described as curly ringlets that are the width of a Sharpie pen. Since she doesn’t have a high volume of hair strands, I create protective styles to make her hair look fuller. Her hair length also reaches mid-back.
A Dream Come True
In 2024, Love Textured Hair was finally born. I decided to intertwine my social work education with my passion for textured hair to help my favorite beings – children!
As you can probably tell, the family unit is incredibly important to me, so it only made sense to create programs where parents are the leaders of change.
[Other than My Family], Here Are 5 Things That I Love
1. I Love God. Most mornings, I start my day with The Bible and coffee with my husband. I believe in waking up early to accomplish the most important things.
2. I Love Being at Home. I believe home should be a safe, warm, and inviting place for everyone who lives in it. I also really enjoy decorating.
3. I Love Reggae Gospel Music and Jamaican Food. The combination of both takes me to my happiest place, and to memories from childhood.
4. I Love Entertaining and Throwing Parties. I believe that all accomplishments and milestones should be celebrated. I feel my best when I can make others feel important on their special days.
5. And Finally, I Love Textured Hair. You probably expected this at some point! I love the story that each curl and coil tells about our ancestral journey. I love how low maintenance textured hair can be (when done right!), and I love that anyone can be trained in this art.
